Vikings Take Lion's Share of Points

The Minnesota Vikings took the Lion's share of the points in yesterday's game against the Detroit Lions, as they crushed Detroit 42-10 in an NFC North Division match up at the Metrodome.

The Minnesota Vikings got a much needed win yesterday in Minneapolis at the Metrodome. Minnesota was written off just three weeks ago as they were at the bottom of the NFC North Division at 3-6. Now just three weeks later, the Vikings are at 6-6, and are tied with Detroit for second place in the division. Minnesota has also tied Detroit and Arizona for the last Wild Card spot in the NFC. Riding a three game win streak, Minnesota has now surpassed Washington, Philadelphia and New Orleans. Just three weeks ago Minnesota needed to win all their games and have all the above teams lost one to two of their remaining games for the Vikings to catch them. Well that did happen, and our Vikings have now made an exciting season out of one that seemed lost a month back.

The Vikings have been lead by rookie quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. Although Jackson is not a true rookie, this is his first season as a starter in the NFL. Tarvaris Jackson completed 18 of 24 passes for 204 yards, threw two touchdowns, one interception, and rushed for 20 yards on 5 carries. Jackson finished off the day with a passer rating of 110.4. This was also Tarvari's first game where he threw for over 200 yards this season and the second of his career. Jackson lead the Vikings down the field to score first on a drive that went nine plays for 87 yards and a two yard run from Chester Taylor with 7:24 left in the first quarter. Detroit then marched down the field on the Vikings, but had to settle for a field goal from kicker Jason Hanson with 1:57 left in the first quarter. Minnesota took a 7-3 lead into the second quarter.

Our Vikings came back from that and answered with another touchdown, this time from Adrian Peterson. Peterson scored early in the second quarter to give the Vikings a 14-3 lead. Jay Kitna and his Lions once again made it look easy, as they came down the field to score a touchdown in four plays for 73 yards, and now trailed the Vikings 14-10. In what was looking like your typical NFC North match up, took a sudden turn, and our Vikings exploded for 28 unanswered points to finish off the Lions 42-10. The Vikings scored on a record breaking kick off return of 103 yards from Aundre Allison. On Detroit's next possession, they went four and out, and had to put to the Vikings. Minnesota drove the ball 51 yards in 10 plays, and Tarvaris Jackson connected with Bobby Wade for a six yard touchdown. This was Wade's first touchdown of the season and Jackson's first touchdown pass under 60 yards. Tarvaris Jackson then connected with Sydney Rice 4:26 later to give the Vikings a 35-10 lead at the half.

The only scoring in the second half came in the third quarter when rookie sensation Adrian Peterson reached the end zone again, capping off the Vikings 42-10 route of the Detroit Lions. For Adrian Peterson, this was his first game back since injuring the LCL in his left knee. Peterson rushed for 116 yards on 15 carries. After the game in an interview, coach Brad Childress stated that after an injury like Peterson's, it takes time to re-build your stamina. Then went on to say it was clear the Adrian Peterson has not lost a step since his injury. Peterson's time should be limited to prevent him from being re-injured this season, and to keep him healthy in the event the Vikings make the playoffs. Our second half of the Vikings one-two punch in the backfield in Chester Taylor also had a good day. Taylor rushed for 70 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown. taylor scored the first points of the game on a two yard run.

The Vikings receiving corps helped pave the way again this week, as Bobby Wade got his first career touchdown on a six yard pass from Tarvaris Jackson. Wade had four receptions for 54 yards, and one touchdown. Sydney Rice had five receptions for 53 yards, and caught a two yard pass from Tarvaris Jackson that ended the second quarter. Rookie receiver Aundre Allison had the game of his career, as he caught two passes for 54 yards, and ran a Vikings record breaking 103 yard kick off return back for a touchdown. Minnesota's offense was very dominant all around yesterday, and even got some help from special teams.

Minnesota's defense was also on the mark. They caused one fumble, one interception, three sacks and only allowed 23 yards rushing on 7 plays. The Vikings defense did give up 240 yards to veteran Jay Kitna, but Detroit only reached the end zone once all day. This marks three weeks in a row the Vikings defense has allowed only two or less touchdowns, and four of five games with the same stat.

Minnesota will now head to San Francisco to play the 49ers. The Vikings will look to avenge an embarrassing 9-3 loss in San Francisco from lastr year, as they look to continue their play off run. Game time is set for 3:05pm Sunday.

SKOL VIKINGS!!!!!
